CASMS Career Development Workshop and Social Gathering at ASMS 2015
CASMS hosted a highly successful Career Development Workshop at the 2015 Annual ASMS Conference. It took place at 12-2 PM on Monday June 1, 2015 at Hilton St. Louis Downtown at the Arch (400 Olive Street, St. Louis MO 63102). The objective of this workshop was to provide a platform for young Chinese graduate students, post-docs, and early career scientists to discuss how to advance their careers and how to build strengths in the following key areas with panelists:
Over 70 attendees participated in this highly engaged workshop which was originally intended for only 50 people. The panelists and facilitators shared their personal experiences on their career development and their passion about sciences. The young scientists asked many excellent questions, mainly focused on their immediate need as well as longer term career advancement. Since the panelists came from different sectors, a well-balanced experience sharing benefited greatly the young scientists. Additionally, several well-established professors, entrepreneurs and scientists also actively participated in the discussion. Excellent feedbacks and follow-ups also occurred after the workshop.
CASMS also hosted a junior faculty lunch gathering on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015 at ASMS 2015. A total of 16 people joined this event, which included junior faculty members, a couple of senior postdoctoral fellows/graduate students who are interested in pursuing an academic career. CASMS President Lingjun Li and CASMS Professional Development Committee Chair Yinsheng Wang joined the lunch gathering. The group shared their experiences in grant-writing, teaching, and academic job hunting. The event also promoted the interactions among the participants. The feedback from this gathering was excellent.
